  • Constitution and Membership Processes Committee

    Chair: Rodger Benefiel

    The Constitution and Membership Processes Committee plays a pivotal role in PA CHEP by overseeing the development and maintenance of the organization's constitution while also shaping its membership framework. Tasked with formalizing membership criteria and processes, this committee ensures clarity, fairness, and inclusivity in membership matters. Additionally, it regularly reviews and adjusts membership guidelines to reflect the evolving needs and dynamics of the consortium. By providing strategic guidance on constitutional matters and fostering a transparent and accessible membership structure, the committee contributes to the cohesion and effectiveness of the organization over time.

  • State Collaboration Committee

    Chair: Coralynn Davis

    The State Collaboration Committee aims to facilitate collaboration across the state to enhance educational opportunities for incarcerated individuals. This committee focuses on streamlining processes, fostering partnerships, and establishing memoranda of agreement to enable programs to work together effectively. Key objectives include aligning curricula, accepting credits from various institutions, and providing support services such as tutoring and advising. By mapping out existing initiatives and identifying areas for improvement, the committee aims to optimize educational pathways for incarcerated students, ensuring their successful integration into higher education and society upon release.

  • Professional Development and Training Committee

    Chair: Joe Schwartz

    The PD and Training Committee will be dedicated to enhancing the professional development of instructors and members engaged in prison education. It will oversee tailored training, resources, and support to instructors teaching within correctional facilities and offers skills development opportunities for members entering or working in the field of prison education. By promoting best practices, advancing professional standards, and fostering continuous improvement, the committee will aim to empower a skilled workforce committed to delivering high-quality education and driving positive change within the criminal justice system.

  • Subgrant Committee

    Chair: Kate Meloney

    The Subgrant Committee is charged with overseeing the subgrant process, funded by the Mellon Foundation, to support the establishment of new prison education programs across Pennsylvania, with a particular focus on the western and central regions. The Subgrant Committee Is responsible for creating a call for proposals to attract innovative prison education programs; establishing criteria for funding to ensure equitable and impactful distribution of grants; and evaluating applications from institutions interested in launching or expanding their prison education initiatives.
