Join Our Planning Committee for the 2024 Annual Meeting

We are excited to announce the formation of a planning committee for PA CHEP's annual meeting, tentatively scheduled for November 2024. This committee will be essential in organizing a successful and impactful event that brings together our community to discuss and advance the mission of expanding higher education in prisons across Pennsylvania.

What Will the Planning Committee Do?

The Planning Committee will work closely with Alex Maco, Program Coordinator of PA CHEP, to handle various tasks, including:

  • Selecting a venue and arranging logistics.

  • Developing the event agenda and scheduling speakers.

  • Coordinating with vendors and service providers.

  • Managing event promotion and participant registration.

  • Ensuring that the needs and priorities of all attendees, especially formerly incarcerated individuals, are addressed.

How to Get Involved

We are seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join this committee. While we welcome all interested volunteers, we are particularly eager to involve formerly incarcerated individuals in the planning process. Your unique perspectives and experiences are invaluable in creating an inclusive and effective event that truly serves our community.

If you are interested in joining the Planning Committee or would like more information, please contact Alex at alex.maco@villanova.edu. Please also feel free to share this information with others who may be interested. Your participation can help us create a meaningful and successful annual meeting.

Together, we can build an event that not only advances our mission but also fosters a supportive and empowering community.

Announcing the Formation of the Subgrant Committee

We are excited to announce the formation of a new Subgrant Committee within PA CHEP. The Subgrant Committee will be chaired by Kate Meloney, Director of the Villanova Program at SCI-Phoenix.

This committee will play a crucial role in overseeing the subgrant process, funded by the Mellon Foundation, to support the establishment of new prison education programs across Pennsylvania, with a particular focus on western and central regions. The Subgrant Committee will be responsible for:

  • Creating a call for proposals to attract innovative prison education programs.

  • Establishing criteria for funding to ensure equitable and impactful distribution of grants.

  • Evaluating applications from institutions interested in launching or expanding their prison education initiatives.

How to Get Involved

If you are interested in joining the Subgrant Committee or would like more information, please contact Alex Maco at alex.maco@villanova.edu. Your involvement can help shape the future of prison education in Pennsylvania.
